Saudi Arabia Travel Insurance Guide: Mandatory Coverage Explained (2026)

Last updated: February 2026 – Aligned with Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI) regulations.

Traveling to the Kingdom? Here is everything you need to know about your health coverage.

In accordance with the Royal Decree by the Saudi Government, all international visitors entering Saudi Arabia for Tourism, Umrah, or Family Visits must possess valid medical insurance for the duration of their stay. This ensures that travelers are protected against unforeseen medical emergencies while in the Kingdom.

At eviSAudi, we prioritize your peace of mind. We handle this entire registration process automatically on your behalf.

1. Good News: Insurance is Included!

We believe in total transparency. We do not charge you extra hidden fees for this mandatory requirement.

No Extra Forms Required:

The mandatory medical insurance policy is automatically included in both our Standard and Express service packages. You do not need to purchase a separate policy or fill out complex insurance documents.

  • Standard Processing: $185 (Visa + Insurance Included)

  • Express Priority: $250 (Visa + Insurance Included)

For a complete breakdown of what else is included in these fees, please visit our Visa Types and Prices page.

2. What Does the Insurance Cover?

The insurance policy is issued by a Ministry-approved provider and is linked directly to your passport number. While exact limits are determined by the Saudi Central Bank, the standard coverage includes:

Coverage Category

Benefit Details

Emergency Treatment

Full coverage for sudden illness, accidents, or injuries requiring immediate hospital admission.

Hospitalization

Costs for room, board, nursing, and doctor fees for inpatient treatments.

COVID-19 Care

Coverage for examination, isolation, and hospitalization expenses if you contract COVID-19.

Medical Evacuation

Costs for emergency transport to the nearest suitable medical facility within the Kingdom.

Medication

Prescribed medicines required during emergency treatment.

💡 Pro Tip: Always keep a digital copy of your Insurance Certificate (PDF) on your phone. You may need to show this at the hospital reception to receive cashless treatment.

3. Who are the Insurance Providers?

The Saudi government assigns insurance providers automatically via a lottery system upon visa issuance. You cannot "choose" a specific company, but all approved providers meet the high standards set by the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance (CCHI).

Common Approved Providers Include:

  • Tawuniya

  • Bupa Arabia

  • MedGulf

  • Gulf Union

  • Al-Rajhi Takaful

How do I get my policy?

Once your E-Visa is approved, your Insurance Certificate will be sent to your email as a PDF attachment along with your visa. You can also download it anytime via our Track Application tool.

4. Validity & Important Exclusions

It is important to understand the limits of this policy to travel confidently.

Validity Period

The insurance is valid for 1 Year (linked to your multi-entry visa), but coverage is active only while you are physically inside Saudi Arabia. The maximum coverage duration per visit typically aligns with the maximum stay allowance (90 days).

⚠️ Critical Exclusion: Hajj Pilgrimage

This medical insurance covers Tourism and Umrah Pilgrimage. However, it is NOT VALID for the Hajj season.

  • Travelers planning to perform Hajj must apply for a specific Hajj Visa.

  • Hajj visas include a specialized, high-coverage insurance package designed for the massive crowds of the pilgrimage season.
