Saudi Umrah Guide for Bahrain Citizens (2026): Visa-Free Entry & Nusuk Rules

This guide is specifically prepared for Bahraini Nationals and reflects the latest GCC border regulations applied by Saudi authorities.

Last updated: February 2026 – Entry rules aligned with GCC agreements.

Saudi Umrah Guide for Bahrain Citizens – Quick Overview: Great news for our brothers and sisters in Bahrain! As citizens of a fellow GCC member state, Bahraini nationals are exempt from Saudi visa requirements. You do not need to apply for an E-Visa. You can enter the Kingdom freely using your National ID (Smart Card) or Passport. This guide explains the entry procedures via the King Fahd Causeway and the mandatory Nusuk App requirements for praying in the Rawdah.

⚠️ Important Distinction: This guide is for Bahraini Citizens (Passport holders). If you are a foreign resident (Expat) living in Bahrain, you DO need a visa. Please refer to our guide on the Saudi Umrah E-Visa for GCC Residents.

For Bahraini nationals, Makkah and Madinah are practically neighbors. With the convenience of the Causeway, performing Umrah is a frequent spiritual habit. However, while entry is visa-free, managing your Nusuk permits is still required for spiritual rites.

Do Bahrain Citizens Need a Visa for Umrah?

No. Bahrain is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

  • Visa Status: Visa-Free (Exempt).

  • Entry Document: Valid Bahraini Passport OR National ID Card (Smart Card).

  • Duration: Unlimited entry and stay.

Entry Requirements Summary:

To ensure a smooth crossing at the border, ensure you have:

  • Valid ID: Your Smart Card must be valid for at least 3 months.

  • Vehicle Insurance (If driving): Valid insurance for Saudi Arabia (can be purchased at the Causeway booths or online).

  • Nusuk App: Installed on your phone for Rawdah bookings.

The King Fahd Causeway: Crossing from Bahrain

For most Bahraini pilgrims, the journey begins at the King Fahd Causeway.

1. Documents at the Border

You will present your Bahraini ID at the passport control cabins. No visa printout is needed.

2. Vehicle Insurance

If you are driving your personal car:

  • You must have valid Saudi vehicle insurance.

  • Authorization: If the car is not in your name (e.g., bank leased or company car), you must have a "Tasreeh" (Authorization Certificate) to cross the border.

3. Traffic Violations (Saher)

Be aware that Saudi traffic fines (Saher) are now linked to GCC systems. Unpaid fines may cause delays at the border during future trips.

Religious Rites: The Nusuk App (Mandatory)

Even though you do not need a visa, you must use the digital system for the Holy Mosques.

Requirement

Details

Rawdah Booking

Mandatory. To pray in the Noble Rawdah in Madinah, you must book a slot via the Nusuk App (register as "GCC Citizen").

Umrah Slot

Recommended. Booking an Umrah slot helps authorities manage crowd capacity at the Mataf.

How to Register:

  1. Download the Nusuk App.

  2. Select "GCC Citizen".

  3. Enter your Bahraini National ID number.

  4. Book your time slot.

Traveling by Air: Manama to Jeddah

If you prefer flying over driving:

  • Gulf Air and Saudia Airlines operate frequent shuttle flights from Bahrain International Airport (BAH) to Jeddah (JED) and Riyadh (RUH).

  • Ihram Logistics: The flight time is very short (approx. 2 hours). You must enter the state of Ihram before or during the flight, as you will cross the Miqat quickly in the air.

Medical Insurance for GCC Citizens

While visa-linked insurance is not required for Bahrainis, it is highly recommended to have:

  • Private Health Insurance: That covers medical emergencies within Saudi Arabia.

  • Government Coverage: Check if current GCC agreements cover emergency treatment in Saudi public hospitals for Bahraini citizens.
